BA (Hons) MRTPI
Associate, Director of Planning and Regeneration
A qualified MRTPI planner, Mel joined Nash Partnership as Director of Planning and Regeneration in 2009. He has extensive experience in policy and development planning, economic development and regeneration, including roles in London, leading the Norton Radstock Regeneration Partnership and heading-up local partnerships, economic regeneration and development at Bath and North East Somerset.
Mel leads a team that, working closely with our design professionals, provides a service founded on core planning capabilities, with added value through research skills, understanding of regeneration and a focus on achieving delivery. He brings strong project management and quality control experience to our planning offer and much of his work is focused on ‘regeneration planning’ for major sites.
Mel sees planning as a tool for delivery and, based on his experience, places a particular focus on understanding the big picture as the context for successful project delivery. ‘While close attention to planning requirements is essential, it is,’ says Mel, ‘easy to get bogged down in policy and often there is a need to inject dynamism into the planning case through a regeneration story that shows how development can contribute to the future of places and communities to fulfil planning policy objectives’.
Away from the office Mel is active in his local community and has set up ‘My Cheddar’ in his home village, a community group working on projects ranging from environmental enhancements to events and activities. He and is also a member of the local Steering Group overseeing the production of a Neighbourhood Plan.
