What sparked your interest in planning and urban design?
A dark and terrifying route up from Sheffield bus station into the city centre as a teenager. The regeneration of the area opened my eyes to the considerable difference some simple landscaping and lighting can make to a person’s relationship with a place.
Is there an area of your role that you are particularly passionate about?
I’m particularly intrigued by alternative and active ways to involve the community in planning and design from the early stages. Ideas from some recent seminars include hundreds of sticky labels around a town centre, and producing masterplans with cake!
Which project are you most proud of and why?
Securing planning permission for Freedog trampoline centre in central Bristol. It’s a great day out, especially the bouncy dodge ball court.
