Last week, Planning Director Mike Fox was delighted to present our urban regeneration project in Southmead to the President of the RTPI, Sue Manns.
The community-led regeneration project was ‘highly commended’ at the 2019 RTPI SW Awards and last week’s presentation was part of Sue’s virtual Presidential visit to the South West region.
Commissioned by Southmead Development Trust working with Yarlington Homes and United Communities, the project involves building on Council owned, under-used open space and other sites to deliver around 300 new homes and a range of community facilities in one of the UK’s most deprived wards.
Working hand in hand with clients, the Council and local community, Nash Partnership and Streets Reimagined developed a community-led masterplan during 2018 to transform the aspirations of the Community Plan into a deliverable vision for central Southmead. In May 2020, the project achieved full, unanimous planning approval at committee.
In presenting the project, Nash Partnership’s Mike Fox was joined by key partners including Finlay McNab (Streets Reimagined), Amy Kinnear (Southmead Development Trust), Mike Murch (Southmead Regeneration Project) and Paul Owens (Bristol City Council).
