Architect Paul Miller has been accepted by RIBA to join its voluntary student mentoring programme, ‘Future Architects’.
Over the course of three months, Paul will host several online sessions with his mentees – two student architects from the University of the West of England. Sessions will include:
- An introduction to life in practice and how delivering a project works
- An overview of a live project and/or a completed project
- A reflection on experiences and the opportunity for mentees to talk about future plans and ask for advice
The programme aims to give existing and applicant RIBA student members an insight into how projects run through different stages, the business of architecture, an awareness of skillsets needed as well as advice and help with reflecting on goals. Through the programme, mentors can expect to develop their own leadership skills while influencing the next generation of architects.
Nash Partnership is one of 27 practices taking part in the national programme, and mentors are either Chartered Architects or from a Chartered Architects practice.
In the past, Nash Partnership has provided internships and summer placements to architecture and planning students from local universities, providing them with a more rounded experience of the built environment. Work experience has also been offered to local school students considering a career in the built environment. These opportunities have enabled the practice to support improvements in confidence for young people.
