As part of our major estate regeneration project for Somerset West & Taunton Council, we’re pleased to have secured unanimous approval for the latest phases of work in the Priorswood area.
The wider project was initiated to resolve the structural issues associated with 212 Woolaway properties. These homes are largely council-owned but are now considered defective. Nash Partnership was commissioned to work closely with the community to explore options and agree design and delivery solutions for this sensitive project. As a result, a total of 162 Woolaway properties are being replaced, while 27 are being refurbished and an extra 65 new homes are being provided. The project, which is split into five phases, also involves creating a new open space and community centre.
Phase A, which will see 26 of the Woolaway homes replaced and 21 additional properties created, is well underway. The first residents are expected to move in later this year.
Plans for the next phases (B&C) were unanimously agreed at a recent planning committee and involve replacing 136 homes with 111 new builds. Demolition works on these phases is expected to commence later this year.
Phase E, which will see 27 of the Woolaway homes refurbished, was approved earlier in 2022 and is also expected to commence later this year.
Detailed plans for the final phase (D) will be submitted once an appropriate phosphates mitigation strategy is finalised. In the meantime, efficient designs and programme scheduling mean delivery of the wider programme can continue while the phosphates issue is addressed.
