On behalf of privately owned house builder Hawkfield Homes, Nash Partnership has secured planning permission for 21 new family-sized homes on a site at Traston Lane, Newport.
The development will include 11 detached 4-bed homes and 10 detached and semi-detached 3-bed homes with garages, driveways, gardens and ancillary space.
The site is bounded by Newport Arena to the north and west and by residential roads to the south and east. It sits within a residential and commercial area, and access to the site will be via the existing Traston Road.
Planning consent to develop the site for residential use was previously granted in 2005 but the scheme remained unbuilt. Hawkfield Homes was recently successful in purchasing the site and appointed trusted partner Nash Partnership to bring forward updated and revised proposals for it. These proposals drew upon the principles of the historic consented scheme whilst bringing forward an evolved contemporary concept and updated house types. A character study of other family homes in the local area also informed the latest designs.

The scheme at Traston Lane is the latest in a string of current projects by Nash Partnership for client Hawkfield Homes, which are helping to fulfil housing needs in Wales and the South West. Other projects include:
- Keynsham Police Station, Bristol. Nash Partnership provided planning and construction delivery design services for nine houses (3-,4- and 5-bed homes) being built on land which housed the former police station, outbuildings and car park. Work on site is well underway.
- Land at Watermore School, Frampton Cotterell. Nash Partnership designed five new 5-bed homes for this site which included former school buildings. Construction has begun and is expected to complete in early- to mid-2022.
- Rush Hill, Bath. Nash Partnership secured planning approval to develop this former garage/petrol station site by building nine new homes, including four contemporary mews townhouses with incredible views across Bath. Works on site have commenced.
- Berrow, nr Burnham-on-Sea. This development consists of eight detached houses (3- and 4-bed) of 1.5 storeys. Nash Partnership provided planning and construction delivery services for the development which will use materials from the local palette and includes new trees and planting. Works are well underway on site.
- Whitehall Road, Bristol. Amended planning consent was secured for this site which will see the construction of nine townhouses designed by Nash Partnership. Works are well underway on site.
- Stafford Garage, Clevedon. Design services for a new nine-dwelling development (four new-build houses and five conversion apartments) on a brown field site in Clevedon. Groundworks have commenced.
Work at the Newport site is anticipated to start in May 2022 for the duration of some 15 months.
