Recommendations for the regeneration of Southmead have been approved by Bristol City Council’s Cabinet in a move that will help the delivery of new homes, facilities and public realm in the area.
The approval endorses the community-led Southmead masterplan which was prepared by Nash Partnership and Streets Reimagined together with the local community and client Southmead Development Trust. It involves building on under-used open space and Council-owned sites to deliver around 300 new homes and a range of new community facilities at the heart of the community.
The planning application for phase 1 – the regeneration of Gleyncoyne Square – achieved a unanimous decision at committee in May 2020.
Commenting on the recent approval, Nash Partnership’s Planning Director Mike Fox said: “We are excited to see the Council committing £7m funding to unlock both the wider masterplan and phase 1 scheme, which we worked up with the Southmead community, Council and other partners. The new housing, community facilities and open space this delivers will place Southmead on the map, improve community wellbeing and raise aspirations, at the most challenging of times.”
