A new sustainable home.
Batcombe Farm is a new single-storey home designed with sustainability a key principle from the outset.
Twin oak framed gables are linked with a green flat roof and nestles into the hillside against a stone clad concrete retaining wall. This earth-sheltered house utilised solar hot water and ground source heat pumps in lieu of a conventional boiler.
Hi-efficiency woodburners in the two principle rooms provide a heating boost in cooler conditions.
Multiple natural freshwater springs traverse the site and these needed careful management with the surface rainwater to avoid flooding and attenuation tanks were located below the new driveway. These provided a useful water storage facility for watering the gardens.
