Madrigal Cottage, Bristol

The brief for this contemporary earth sheltered house was to significantly enlarge the floor area of the existing buildings and to take advantage of the spectacular setting.

The design utilised exposed concrete retaining walls with open plan accommodation around a central courtyard and pool, which allowed a sheltered external space offering glimpses of the distant views whilst maintaining some privacy for the family.

Water was delivered via an ancient on site borehole; the specification included ground source heat pumps and a greenroof.
