A new City Plan for Pemba, Mozambique

We are working with Bristol Link with Beira (BLB) to work up a scoping proposal for the preparation of a city plan, which will govern the management of the city for the next five to ten years, with an overall time horizon of up to 2050. It will use the short-term opportunity presented by the offshore gas reserves, to fund longer-term objectives relating to human development, increased resilience and the transition to a greener economy.

The City Plan will provide strategic and cross-cutting socio-economic policies that will govern how public and private sector funds are invested, as well as providing a spatial framework to manage built development.

Our work will deliver meaningful change through:

  • Creating a more inclusive framework
  • Building the capacity of key stakeholders and the community
  • Helping improve the physical environment and urban resilience after recent natural disaster, including Cyclone Kenneth in 2019
