We are working with award-winning developer City and Country on the redevelopment of the former Bath Press site near Bath’s city centre.
This large urban site is in a highly sensitive conservation area within the World Heritage City of Bath. Surrounded by existing homes, a primary school and the Lower Bristol Road – one of the main routes into and out of Bath – the site dates back to the 1890s. The original Bath Press was home to the Pitman Press printing works, led by Sir Isaac Pitman, who developed one of the world’s most widely used methods of shorthand.
The site became vacant in 2007 and the buildings on it were subsequently demolished in 2018 to allow for redevelopment. The existing facade of the former printing press factory building has been retained and ties into the new build elements behind. Nash Partnership is working with City & Country on phases 1-3 (eastern half of the site) in delivering the first 144 homes (11 houses and 133 apartments) on the site, alongside a basement car park area. The project is being constructed using a reinforced concrete frame with steel framing system infill.
