At the former fire station site in Keynsham, our client (Chewton Place Developments) is delivering a high-quality new development comprising 21 one- and two-bedroom apartments for over-55s alongside ground floor commercial space.
Ideally located between Bristol and Bath, the site has been vacant since 2015 when the fire service relocated to new premises at Hicks Gate, which left this prominent town centre site unused for several years.
In 2024, we were pleased to secure full planning permission for our client to bring the site forward. This marked an important milestone as the last remaining plot awaiting development within the Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) Civic Centre regeneration area. Permission relating to the Section 106 agreement was subsequently granted in 2025.
The site is small and tightly constrained, presenting a number of design and technical challenges. Our design team worked closely with our planning and heritage specialists to shape proposals that responded to the site’s context and sensitivities. Community feedback also played a key role, with local engagement helping to inform and refine the emerging scheme.
Once complete, the development will support the continued vitality of Keynsham town centre, delivering much-needed accommodation while transforming a redundant and unattractive site into an active and positive addition to the area.
