The carbon emissions of Nash Partnership’s Bath office will be improved considerably thanks to funding via a Green Business Grant from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WEMCA).
With a total of £2m available for businesses in the area, the grants are designed to help SMEs buy and install new products and equipment which will improve energy efficiency. At our Sydney Buildings address in Bath, the funding will enable work including:
- Upgrading to LED lighting on both floors
- The installation of a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system for heating/cooling
- New ultra-thin Fineo vacuum glazing for windows, with solar film
With our Bath office being a Grade II-listed building, the installation of vacuum glazing will bring many benefits for this historic property. The glazing’s slim profile will allow the windows to retain their historic charm while reducing the risk of condensation and improving sound-proofing. In addition, vacuum glass is guaranteed to last for 50 years and can be recycled as it has no coating.
At Nash Partnership, our heritage team has recently used vacuum glazing on projects for clients including:
- The Francis Hotel in Bath. This Grade I listed hotel in the iconic Queen Square is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound refurbishment. As heritage architect, we secured Listed Building consent for sensitive alterations, including the installation of energy-efficient vacuum glass windows, roof and masonry repairs, and public realm enhancements. The Francis Hotel was among the first historic commercial properties in Bath to gain permission for vacuum glazing.
- Private client, Bath. Heritage repairs and sensitive changes to a Grade II-listed Georgian family home, which included repairing and replacing windows (using vacuum glass), relocating the kitchen to its original basement location, restoring floors and fireplaces, and upgrading the roof.
Installation work enabled by the Green Business Grant at our Sydney Buildings address started in November 2025.
